Today, the best MP3 encoder to use in general for all uses is the LAME MP3 encoder. Much optimization and time has been spent over the past several years to turn LAME MP3 encoder into the defacto standard for producing the best encoded MP3 music files on the planet. While other encoders may have a lead in terms of speed, you can't go wrong with this superb encoder.

Tip: Use the --preset settings to obtain high-quality encodings easily ('--preset standard' is a very good start).
